Pilton Community Biodiversity WhatsApp

Landscape view across Pilton toward Glastonbury Tor.

Did you know that Pilton now has a Community Biodiversity WhatsApp group?

The group has three groups within it:

  • Announcements - Here the admin posts interesting updates on biodiversity, climate change, local consultations and events.

  • Observations of Pilton flora and fauna - This is where the community can post photos and information on sitings around the parish - ideal for anyone who walks the parish and people of any age who are keen to learn more about our environment. Information may also be used to help understand Pilton's flora and fauna, and learn where we can support it.

  • Biodiversity Chat - this is where the community can discuss ideas for the local environment.

It is a new group, we are keen to see it evolve into a group that can provide great contributions towards conserving and maintaining local biodiversity.

You can access the WhatsApp group through this link https://chat.whatsapp.com/CEsTQMepErA4L11pRkkdVD

Keen to get started? Think about adding these two apps to your phone:

Merlin - the Cornell University app that listens to bird song around you and identifies it. This is a great learning tool to pick out the bird species around you - especially useful during the springtime cacophony.

iNaturalist - This app is amazing - take photos of plants, animals or fungi, or record sounds and upload your observations to the app. You will be given suggestions as to what it is that you have found, and the worldwide community will validate your observations to Research Grade. Another great learning tool.
